USPLabs Jack3d is now in the store if anyones interested but hurry cos already selling fast, once i get some feedback i'll let ya all know!!

7th July 2010

Amazing feedback from USPLabs Jack3d so far, everyone is reporting back with fantastic workouts, big increases in strength and awsome pumps, myself and my partner Tracey had our first dose of Jack3d before our morning workout, we both had a awsome workout, it's a small drink to take, it mixes very well, taste great and is very light on your stomach, you don't get a massive rush like you do with a lot of other Pre-Workout drinks, but you do get a sense of well being and focus, then when you start training you then realise how good this Pre Workout Drink is, Jack3d is very highly recommended!!

7th August 2010

Well done to the guys who competed at the BNBF Northern, Well done Matt 3rd Place,(pic above), Paul Callighan and Anthony didn't place but looked fantastic its only a matter of time before these guys get placed in the top three.

Spartan Contest

Saturday 9th October

Hi guys its Scott at musclemeals.co.uk. I hope you are all fit and well and enjoying life both in and out of the gym.

In our last newsletter I mentioned I was preparing for a charity strongman event and id like to share with you my experiences from that day.

We arrived in Consett, Co. Durham in a haze of grey cloud and patchy drizzle-not the best of conditions for a strongman competition! We were early for the weigh in and so had chance to meet the other competitors and take a look around the gym.

Spartan Performance, the venue hosting the event is a fantastic gym packed full of squat racks, deadlift platforms and an array of other strength training equipment used to produce some tremendously strong blokes-as I was to later find out!

Weighing in at 78kg I was the lightest guy there, giving away a 13kg weight advantage to the next ‘lightest’ guy. Including myself there were 9 other competitors, myself and three other representing Iron Age Gym and the remaining six from Spartan Performance. We were briefed on the rules and order of the events and headed outside into improving weather for the first event-the over head log press.

The rules of this event was to lift a 80kg log from the floor and press it above head, locking the elbows before lowering the log to the floor and repeating for as many reps as possible in 75 seconds. I was really nervous stepping up to the log but pressed the first four easily. The fifth rep was a struggle and I just missed out on a sixth rep after failing to lock out. I was a bit disappointed with my performance as I had set myself a goal of six reps.

Next up was a last man standing deadlift. I am always confident of pulling a big deadlift, but two days before the competition we were told that instead of using an Olympic bar we would be using a two inch axle, round about the diameter of a coke can. This concerned me but as a bit of a trade off we would be lifting from tyres so we had a slightly higher pick up. Oh, and to make things a bit more interesting lifting straps were not allowed!

The starting weight was 140kg.I didn’t know if I could pull this weight as I hadn’t trained to use an axle. I really didn’t want to bomb out at the starting weight and let the side down. I pulled it easily and was chuffed to bits!

Next weight was 180kg. Once more I pulled it easily! A couple guys looked to be struggling with it so I knew I had them in the next round...that is if could make the weight myself!

Next round and 210kg on the bar. This was a bit tougher but I managed it. We lost three lads in this round.

240kg and way beyond my PB. The two guys before me failed to break it from the floor. I grasped the axle as tight as I could and pulled with everything I had. It seemed to take forever to lift from the floor but I inched it up ever so slowly. I got it to knee height but that was that, I had run empty on this event and could not move it any further. I dropped the bar but got a rousing applause from the crowd.

Two guys battled it out with the winner posting a 270kg lift.

The third event was the tyre flip. It was a huge thing weighing in at 350kg and when stood upright was nearly as tall as me. We had to flip it as many times as possible in 75 seconds. This was not a good event for me as I failed to flip it once. This was not through lack of effort as I lifted it to chest height four times; I just did not have the technique to flip it. The crowd were very good to me and cheered me on as I struggled.

The penultimate event was the medley. This included carrying a pair of 90kg farmers walk over 25m, returning with a 105kg keg before finally dragging a 150kg sled to the finish line…all with 75 seconds! I managed the farmers walk ok but the keg wiped me out. It wasn’t so much the weight but more the awkwardness of it, I couldn’t lift it high enough to clear my knees. 18m into the course and I was timed out.

The last event was the ‘prowler’ an ‘A’ shaped sled with two staffs fixed at the wider ends onto which weights are slotted. The total weight was 120kg and the fastest time over the 40m course was the winner. I set the third quickest time, pushing the prowler in 25 seconds and was really pleased with that.

All in all it was a great day and it looks like I’ll be doing it again as I was invited to next years British qualifier. I can’t bloody wait!!

There's some photo's from the event in the Gallery section.
